Q: You mentioned that terry towels can be used in livestock barns, how does that work?
A: Small 13 x 13 inch terry cloth towels are often used in the dairy industry for sanitary practices. They are used to clean the teats of the cow prior to milking, so that bacterial infections do not occur within the udder of the cow (Seegers et al., 2003).

Q: You said that terry towels are very absorbent due to the loops they possess, what are the loops made of that make them so hydrophilic?
A: These loops are typically made of cotton material. Cotton is highly hydrophilic, meaning is enjoys being in the presence of water (Everett & Moyer, 2010). Cotton can hold high amounts of water compared to other materials, and therefore makes it a popular material in the textile industry. Cotton is also used because it has a low tendency to cause allergic reactions, which is also a major advantage to using this material (Powell & Yilmaz, 2005).
